The Victorian Energy Upgrades Program, previously referred to as the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET) Scheme, is an initiative by the Victorian Government. It’s also recognized as the Energy Saver Incentive. Launched under the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Act 2007, this program is overseen by the Essential Services Commission (ESC) as outlined in the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Regulations 2008.

What’s the Goal of the VEU Program? The main objectives of the VEU Program are:

1. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
2. Promote the efficient consumption of electricity and gas.
3. Make energy-efficient upgrades more economical.
4. Stimulate investment, employment, and technological advances in the energy efficiency sector.

This isn’t a rebate program. Instead, the VEU Scheme provides tangible savings for households and businesses.

How Does It Work? Registered businesses termed as “Accredited Persons” (AP) play a pivotal role. When they assist you in enhancing your property’s energy efficiency, they generate electronic certificates termed Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs). Each VEEC symbolizes one tonne of greenhouse gases that has been prevented from being released.

Renewable Energy Upgrades stands as an Accredited Person, enabling us to create VEECs. It’s important to emphasize that while we operate under the VEU guidelines, we’re not directly affiliated or compensated by the Victorian Government. Our primary revenue comes from selling the VEECs we produce to “Relevant Entities,” mainly comprising major energy retailers obligated under the VEU Scheme.

How Do Customers Benefit? The income generated from selling VEECs can translate into discounts for customers on energy-efficient appliances or products. As the VEEC’s value is variable and the discounts offered to customers are usually at the discretion of the AP, it’s beneficial to explore various offers.

Victorian Energy Upgrades Program Eligibility Criteria:

1. Location: Your property, whether home or business, must be located in Victoria.
2. No Previous Installations: For the specific address in question, the products you’re interested in installing should not have been previously set up under the VEU Scheme.
3. Current Product Status: If you’re considering replacing an existing product, it mustn’t already be energy-efficient or water-conserving. For instance, if you currently have a water-saving showerhead installed, it cannot be exchanged for another water-saving showerhead through the VEU Scheme.
